Thu, November 1, 2007 - 12:03 PMTHAT... is a gnarly looking beastie!
I love the fact that BMW is making SMALLER, lighter, cleaner more nimble bikes again. -

Thu, November 1, 2007 - 12:14 PMOK, at the risk of appearing very ignorant. .
What is with the rear end of the frame and fender being so far above the wheel? I've seen it on all kinds of sport bikes. From a physics perspective, it looks awkward and unsafe especially for bikes well under 500lbs, and from an esthetic perspective, it's butt-ugly as an open scissors.
Can someone 'splain? -

Re: HP2 Sport
Thu, November 1, 2007 - 1:49 PMWell, I guess its just a taste thing. BMW motorcycle design has always inspired Love it or Hate it reactions.
I personally think, from a design engineering standpoint, that this is a beautiful machine.
As for the rear suspension, You have to understand the "heredity" of this bike, coming from the HP (high performance off-road) sires.
So its Uber beefy rear suspension travel is no surprise. One thing BMW does well is engineering. From a physics standpoint... you would need to chat with Beemer engineers, but they have done well with making the GS series perform better than many Super Sports do on the pavement. Also BMW Boxer engines puts both the weight of the cylinders low and general have a lower center of gravity than other bikes. So having a higher suspension doesn't mean higher center of gravity.
Anyways... Its a taste thing. I think its pretty , but then I ride older BMW airheads which many ppl think are ugly. -

Sat, November 3, 2007 - 11:38 AMWow... you ride a toaster... and you think this bike is ugly... that splains a lot.. (just kidding) As I am sure you know the R75/5 is both loved and hated simultaneously by avid airheads. Its truly a gorgeous ugly bike. -

Tue, November 6, 2007 - 12:24 PMNo toaster. I've had three /5s, none had toaster tank. Loved, loved, loved, the 6-gallon baby till it was ruined in a bad re-coating job by a nice, but less than wonderful mechanic.
I have a 4-gallon tank now, and learning how to watch levels better. My Harley spoils me, it has a gas gauge, but I sure wish it held more than 4 gallons too.
