I'm looking to put a set of saddle bags (locking hard cases, really) on my 1978 BMW R100/7 but I am not really interested in Krauser or Hepco & Becker suitcase style bags. They are expensive and I prefer a top loading bag. Does anyone know if other hard cases fit these bikes? All searches and websites only return these suitcase bags as options for BMW's.
Keep the wheels on the pavement (unless you meant to do that)!

Re: Options for Saddle Bags for '78 BMW R100/7
Tue, May 5, 2009 - 10:13 AMThe only top loading side cases for beemers that I can think of off hand would be either the aftermarket "Adventure type"
www.xrv.org.uk/getimage.php Usually very ugly/practical and made of aluminum
or for the much older ( /2 era ) bikes. 2.bp.blogspot.com/_a_MXfX_K...-2-sm.JPG. They are more organic in shape but also smaller and won't hold a helmet, hard to find, pricey, not practical and they also have totally different mounts from the /7. -

Tue, May 5, 2009 - 12:06 PMYeah, it mostly looks like to get what I want I have to modify someone's existing bags and mounts or do a custom job myself. Still, I'm hopeful that someone might have run across something I can use. It just seems that there are still plenty of dual rear shock bikes out there so it seems like there should be something that would fit the older boxer types. -

Tue, May 5, 2009 - 12:23 PMI would try asking airlist (airheads.org) mailing list. The guys there know damn near everything about beemers and their accessories.
After that, try ADVriders they are gearheads that know about aftermarket bags, mounts and custom jobs. -
